Bombs Away! A Musical

Synopsis:
From the guys who brought you Comedy Festival hits Space Race and the Irrefutable Truth About Pet Food, comes BOMBS AWAY - an explosive, brand new comedy-musical where no New Zealand icon is safe (from bombs). It's 2012 in the island nation of New Zealand, and when a bomb-terrorist starts targeting the some of the country's most beloved landmarks, the Prime Minister calls upon the only guys qualified for the job. A.D, Matt and Ben are Bombs Away", 3 bomb disposal experts who couldn't defuse a bomb if their lives depended on it (often the case when it comes to bombs). Armed with courage, teamwork, and song, our unlikely heroes venture on a nationwide journey that takes them everywhere from Kelly Tarlton's to the Waitomo Caves. From Ohakune's giant carrot to the world famous Hobbit Film Set itself. With the country facing a threat to it's identity and tourist viability unlike any it has ever known, it's up to the three least qualified techs in all of the Commonwealth to put aside their differences and sort it out. With a hilarious script from Nic Sampson, Ryan Richards and Barnaby Fredric, complemented by an exciting full length musical score from Joseph Moore, BOMBS AWAY is an absurd and uplifting show that promises to me one of the most unique of the 2012 New Zealand Comedy Festival. BOMBS AWAY is based on the award winning short musical, A Stitch in Time, which competed in and took out the lion's share of the awards at the Short + Sweet theatre festivals in Auckland and Melbourne. No strangers to the stage or screen, Nic, Ryan, Barnaby and Joseph have written, devised and performed 13 original comedy works for Auckland and Wellington theatres - as well as having performed in and written for numerous NZ Television productions. With impossibly catchy songs, an innovative set and elaborate stage-explosions - BOMBS AWAY is a likely sell-out, and an absolute must see.

Green Room

Synopsis:
A fairly shallow story about three shameless, ruthless, hapless young louts and their unending rivalry to get the girl, the line, the good hat, Green Room's charm is in the droll performances of the protagonists as they feverishly undertake their self-serving agendas. there are a few clever twists, some not unpredictable but still satisfying in a way. the action goes down (mainly) in the green room of a locally produced international film. Three plucky lads, just extras in the project at this stage, hustle and scheme to milk this would-be Hollywood scene for all it's worth. . .

Space Race

Synopsis:
Edmund Hillary, Ernest Rutherford, Ben Lummis. In our short history as a nation, our little country constantly produces great men who dream beyond their humble origins to achieve greatness. And as anyone who has attended more than ten minutes of a fifth form history class knows - there is no greater Kiwi battler than Laurie Marshall - the man who dreamed of reaching the stars& and just got on with it. Finally, on the 30th of April 2011, the iconic tale of New Zealand's attempt at taking on the Americans and the Russians in the great race to the moon will finally see its masterfully detailed and historically accurate stage debut. It is 1969 and the small town of Sanson is going through a purple patch. the pumpkins are looking bigger than ever, their annual vege-market-festival is just around the corner, and best of all - the NZBC are covering the event for all of New Zealand to hear. the entire town is in a wild, agronomy-induced frenzy. Everyone, that is, apart from Laurie Marshall. A tractor mechanic, Laurie has always been good with his hands, but his eyes have always been set staunchly on the stars. After 4 years of toiling away in his barn, hammering together tractor parts and odds-and-ends, Laurie has created a rocket powered ship capable (hopefully) of safely carrying a human being into outer space. It doesn't look pretty, but he reckons it'll do the trick. When the NZBC get wind of Laurie's little project, it sparks a media frenzy that attracts attention from across the globe. Soon agents from the CIA and the KGB descend on the small town to size up the threat to their space plans from this small man, and his big dreams.
