South African born Gillian Slovo lives in London. She is the author of then novels and a family memoir, 'Every Secret Thing'. Of her last two novels, 'Red Dust', winner of the RFI temoin du monde prize in France, has been made into a film, while 'Ice Road' has been shortlisted for the 2004 Orange prize.

Weaving together personal stories, legal opinion and political debate, 'Guantanamo: Honor Bound to Defend Freedom' looks at the questions surrounding the detentions in Guantanamo Bay, and asks how much damage is being done to Western democratic values during the 'war of terror'.
