ELAINE ROMERO's plays Barrio Hollywood, Secret Things, Living Dolls, ĄCuranderas! Serpents of the Clouds, the Fat-Free Chicana and the Snow Cap Queen, and Day of Our Dead have been presented at such theatres as Actors Theatre of Louisville, Ford Amphitheater, Women's Project and Productions, Dodger Stages, San Diego Rep, INTAR, the Working Theatre, Magic Theatre, Arizona Theatre Company, the Bay Area Playwrights Festival, Kitchen Dog Theatre, Phoenix Theatre, City Theatre, Borderlands, Theatre, the Miracle Theatre, Invisible Theatre, and the New Theatre. She has been published by Vintage Books, Samuel French, University of Iowa Press, Smith & Kraus, Heinemann Press, and Simon and Schuster (upcoming). A past Guest Artist at South Coast Repertory, Romero serves as playwright-in-Residence at the Arizona Theatre Company, managing their National Latino Playwriting Award. Romero participated in the TCG/Pew National Theatre Artist in Residency Program and the NEA/TCG Theatre Residency Program for Playwrights. She attended the Sundance Institute's Playwright's Retreat at the Ucross Foundation where she began Walk into the Sea, for which she received a 2005 Magic Theatre/Alfred P. Sloan Foundation Science and Technology commissioning. The Curious Theatre in Denver has commissioned Elaine to write Rain of Ruin for their War Anthology, which will include works by Suzan-Lori Parks, Paula Vogel, and Tony Kushner. An excerpt of Curanderas was featured at the American National Theatre's Founder's Day Celebration, honoring August Wilson. Some of Elaine's other awards include the Tennessee Williams One-Act Play Contest, the Sprenger-Lang New History Play Contest, and a Playwriting Fellowship from Arizona Commission on the Arts. Secret Things was developed at the Arizona Theatre Company through the TCG/Pew National Theatre Artist in Residency Program, and further developed at Actors Theatre of Phoenix, the Bay Area Playwrights Festival, and the Ford Amphitheater. Elaine holds her B.A. in Creative Writing from Linfield College and her MFA in Dramatic Art (playwriting) from the University of California at Davis. Elaine is a National Core Member of the Playwrights Center and a member of the Dramatists Guild.
