Synopsis:

"Lace Curtains" is a wonderfully compelling play of two distinct stories, both having to do with none other than. . .Lace Curtains! ACT I finds a family about to attend a wedding, but the bride is. . ..well. . ..that "must" remain a surprise! Though steeped in tradition of family and it's most familiar and quirky dynamics, this tale will have you laughing one minute and quietly moved the next. ACT II is the second story and it is about 5 women whose paths never cross except one night in a train station. Each have left their everyday lives behind and wander into painful memories and new revelations. Though both stories portray the female triumph over life with it's many twists and turns they are both seductive, funny and even heart breaking. Set at any time and any place, it opens with a narrative that's direct but touching.

While recalling childhood memories they laugh and share a years worth of "what's been happening" between them. On the last day of their gathering. . .they make a short trek to the edge of town. Now abandoned. . . except for a caretakers visit once a month to see that the grass is trimmed and that no cob webs take it over. . ..it stands quiet and still till the women solumnly approach and enter. 5 chairs sit in a circle surrounding a weathered, round area rug. A faded intricately embroidered rose is in it's center. They all take a seat. No words, no laughter. . .only a stillness that links them in a silent chain of anticipation. After what seems like a long time. . .the eldest of Mrs. Channings daughters speaks. Her tone is soft and low. Their eyes brim over with nervousness as they look each to the other. The secrets are about to be told. . ..their lives are about to change. . .again. . .as always. It has been that way for years, decades. . ..generations. . .and nothing could be done to stop it. . . . .nothing. . .NOTHING. . .until maybe. . .. . .. . .. . .now!

This play can be described as the joy, and inner peace and conflict found in the bonds of sisterhood. Richie-Lacy explores this connection of more than blood lines that unite Herra and Della Fulton . The blueprints of their sisterhood live as more than sibling energy, instead. . .a warm and sheltered place where outside forces dare to tread. Yet when those on the other side of this twin relationship stumble into a place where others are not welcomed. . .tragic and unexpected happenings begin to unfold, leaving only ONE sister to reveal the frightening. . .truth. . .but at what price!
