Notes: | conceived and created by Cara Reichel
Synopsis: | The Dome is an original, site-specific work inspired by the architecture of the West End Theatre (in the landmarked Church of St. Paul and St. Andrew). This description is from the press release: "The Dome interweaves three stories with universal resonance. In the first (created by Rinne Groff and Marisa Michelson, and directed by May Adrales) a contemporary New York couple anticipates the birth of their first child. In the second (written and directed by David Miller), two clowns decipher cryptic messages from the unknown and make a surprising discovery in the theater's dome. And in the third (written by Laura Marks and directed by Stefanie Sertich), Voltaire and his lover, the scientist and mathematician Emilie du Chatelet, passionately argue their ideas of God, seeking enlightenment. Connecting these stories is a web of monologues and music (created by Deborah Abramson, Michael Cooper & Hyeyoung Kim, Jason Grote & Marisa Michelson, Norman Lasca, and Jonathan Portera) as well as 'found text' selected from hundreds of online interviews. Audience members may select onstage or traditional seating, and are encouraged to arrive early to experience an art installation in the lobby and performance space."
