I was born in the city of New Orleans and am absolutely heartbroken by what has happened. There is no place like New Orleans or the spirit of its people. New Orleans will always be great, because of its beautiful people, such as those wonderful artists who always found life's beauty through their jazz on the streets of Preservation Hall. It will always be my city and I am proud to be a native. As a playwright, I believe plays should take people outside of their familiarity and into the worlds of people such as survivors of war, survivors of domestic abuse, survivors of rape, the displaced, the nameless, those we see on the news, give a sympathetic sigh to, and then turn the channel to something happier.
