Synopsis: | Contender is the rags to riches story of Rhondda-born Tommy Farr and his infamous World Title fight against the legendary Joe Louis at the Yankee Stadium, New York in 1937. A wealthy man when he retired from his initial boxing career, Tommy Farr returned to the ring when facing bankruptcy at the age of 37. In a fight which captivated Wales, Farr fought bravely and held on for 15 rounds, with Louis unable to bring Farr down. Joe Louis won eventually on points. | |||||
