James Mainard O'Connell holds an MFA in Shakespeare and Renaissance Literature in Performance from Mary Baldwin College in Partnership with the American Shakespeare Center and a BA in Theatre from Hendrix College. He is the former owner and artistic director of Golden Duck Productions and has worked in various capacities with the Peterborough Players and the American Shakespeare Center. He has also taught at James Madison University and Episcopal Collegiate School.

Synopsis:
Lisa Thomas is a young newspaper reporter uncovering a story about the death of a black teenager in New Brunswick, NJ during the 2008 election season. When it appears the mayor was somehow tied up in the death, Lisa must resolve the difference between Truth and Facts in order to create a story her editor will publish.
Notes:
This play won the 2012 Hendrix-Murphy playwriting contest Associated with Hendrix College. It is to be given A staged reading in the fall of 2012.

Synopsis:
Written to be performed in an environmental setting with some audience involvement. The head of the National Crime Syndicate has decided to retire and has called a meeting to choose his successor. When he is murdered before his successor is named, the mysterious detective Marlowe suddenly shows up to solve the crime. Whodunnit? The wife? The mistress? The oafish bodyguard? One of the other crime bosses? Or was it Marlowe himself?

Synopsis:
Paula and Jansen, a young unmarried couple, have recently moved into a new home together. Their relationship is tested when Jansen decides to hang one of his paintings in the dining room as they are expecting both sets of parents for a housewarming dinner. The relationship is further tested as the painting seems to cast a strange spell over Paula's parents.

Synopsis:
Written to be performed in an environmental setting with some audience involvement. A new game show called Sudden Death has come to Massanutten Resort (or wherever the show happens to be performing). The audience is divided into three teams to help the three contestants answer a variety of odd questions. Unfortunately the host of the game show is a jerk and a showboat who seems to have problems with everyone in the room. When he suddenly drops dead, it's anyone's guess whodunit.

Synopsis:
A new comedic twist on the traditional frog prince tale. Prince Tad is turned into a Frog when he refuses to give his apple to a witch in the woods. He soon falls for an attractive, feisty peasant girl who instead falls in love with Tad's servant. Tad must learn about love, friendship, and how to be humble.
