Synopsis: | In a lush world of dense mediascapes, dance and traditional storytelling are used to collide the story of Scheherazade and her sister with the Victorian era's Isabel Burton and Jane Digby. Aviary contrasts the life of Lady Burton, wife of English writer/adventurer Richard Burton (famed translator of the Kama Sutra and 1001 Arabian Nights) and her friend Lady Jane Digby (notorious socialite) with the imagined life of Scheherazade and her sister Dunyzade. What results is a conversation between the four women told in an environment that breathes life into the gilded cages of the Victorian drawing room and ancient harem. Focusing on a full sensory experience for the audience, artists Brendan Regimbal and Samara Naeymi use soundscapes, video elements, pole gymnastics, and traditional storytelling to spark the conversation of ideas between four timeless women. Please note that wine and light snacks will be served during the performance. | |||||
