Synopsis: It was improvised at a workshop, developed into a script by David Wright. It was first performed by the Experimental Theatre Club of Oxford University in 1963, at the Oxford Playhouse. It was experimental theatre; included songs, dance, mime, Punch & Judy, folklore -- anything appropriate. The theme was capital punishment; the format was a circus, with ringmasters as the Establishment, strongman as Hangman, clown as Condemned, carpet clowns as vox pop. with many thanks to Hazel Bell for the information. | ||||
