A mix of the serious and the comic in semi-naturalistic style with the narrative operating as a love story against the back drop of major social and political upheaval. Although set in 1930, Riot is highly relevant to the UK today and tackles head on the sensitive matter of Muslim/West relations. Synopsis: | This exciting production is the result of a two month trip by local writer Peter Mortimer to the Palestinian Refugee Camp in Beirut, the scene of the notorious Shatila Massacre in 1982. Mortimer worked with the camp's children in adapting, and then performing in English a play based on his children's fable, Croak, The King & a Change in the Weather, which was performed twice on camp on the final day.
