During the 1980s and 1990s, Paul Anthony Morris worked as an actor in theatre and television. In 1994 he co-founded an independent production company called Trow Out Poe producing the award winning film Once upon a Time. He has trained with mentors in the UK, US and Ghana. This culminated with funding from the Arts Council Decibel to workshop his epic play The Seer in partnership with West Yorkshire Playhouse. His current company Crying in the Wilderness Productions showcased 35 Cents at the STEPS Festival and the Tell Tarra Writers Festival. He directed 35 Cents at the Blue Elephant Theatre and a revised production of a play entitled Hope in their Eyes for Amarantha Theatre Company in 2007. He is currently working on two new plays: Identity and Choices, a commission for the CIA Community Theatre Company. His recent work at St Michael and Angels Academy trained pupils on various aspects of film writing, directing, producing, and technical learning which concluded with the production of five original short stories, screened at the British Film Institute.

Synopsis:

35 cents is the amount left in each dollar for domestic spending after Jamaica's international debt has been serviced. Thus the play addresses the problem through a meeting of the fictional No Confidence Movement where a confrontation of the national power structure is proposed with the call for a nationwide boycott of the forthcoming elections.
