In the Theater Department, Dr. Moe developed and headed the playwriting program, served as department chair and director of graduate studies and co-executive director of the McLeod Summer Playhouse. A member of the dramatist guild, he is the author and co-author of the 12 produced or published plays, and has won several awards for his writing. He is the co-author of four books including Creating Historical Drama, 2nd ed. (SIU Press, 2005) with Scott Parker, and Eight Plays for Youth with SIU alumnus Eugene Jackson. His articles and critical essays have appeared in national journals and reference works. His directing experience encompasses some 90 plays, some produced in outdoor theaters and summer stock companies. Honors include a Fulbright fellowship to Australia, and past appointment as American College Theater National Playwriting Awards chair. An active retirement includes writing, directing in community theater, travel and tennis. His wife is Carolyn Forman and two adult sons are Eric, a composer, and Keith, a musician and environmental planner.
