Patrick Miles is one of the foremost translators of Russian literature in the country. He spent two and a half years in Russia in the 1970s and 1980s and was made persona non grata' by the Communist regime. He has directed his own translations of IVANOV, THE CHERRY ORCHARD and Chekhov's vaudevilles on the Edinburgh Fringe, and has translated Turgenev, Bulgakov, Vampilov and Rozovskiy for the National Theatre (where he was literary consultant for two years). Patrick is also editor of CHEKHOV ON THE BRITISH STAGE(Cambridge University Press, 1993) and runs his own translation agency in Cambridge.
