Existing at the intersection of music, dance, design, projected image and drama, David Megarrity's theatre works for children have been produced by both major theatre companies in Queensland, played at the Sydney Opera House and toured overseas. They are often non-text based and incorporate projected image of which David has also been the writer and co-filmmaker. Adult works created in 2006 include the short play '3G', performed at La Boite, the shortlisting of CELLO DAY in the Queensland Premier's Drama Award, the adaptation of the Roger McGough poem cycle 'UNLUCKY FOR SOME' for the stage, and a co-write of LILY CAN'T SLEEP (QTC/QPAC) for the Out of the Box Festival of Early Childhood. He performed at UKULELELAND in Sydney, with a musical slideshow. A compilation of his first band FRIENDS OF THE IGUANA titled COLLECTED RECORDINGS was also released. David is produced, published, released, awarded and broadcast as a writer and director of theatre and performance, composer/musician for film and live performance, writer/director of shopping lists and films including the short 'STOP' which was an Official Selection in Competition at Cannes 2000. His recent short film, 'THE FIGURES' was selected for Base-Court, Lausanne, Switzerland in 2006. His picture book THE EMPTY CITY will be published by Lothian in 2007. Current band THE GOODBYE NOTES are currently preparing to record their second album. His soundtrack works with Brett Collery have been compiled on the newly released SONIC LOOM CD. David's areas of research include collaborative creativity and the relationship between music and performance. His professional career as an artist combines productively with his academic teaching as an Associate Lecturer in Drama at QUT.
