Deirdre McNamara, playwright, director, photographer, actress,born in Trinidad and Tobago, raised in Surrey and Hampshire, England. Mother, grandparents British/British-German, Father Irish. Naturalised US citizen resident in NYC x 30 years. Year 0-1 in Caribbean. 1-10 in beautiful England. Educational evaluation in Hampshire found "literacy equivalent of Oxbridge graduate" in 9 year old Deirdre. First play written age eight. Moved to Ireland age 10 and won academic and dramatic awards. Literary, Math and science prodigy. Miss Ireland/Miss World finalist. Took company class with Bolshoi Ballet. At one time had facility with ten languages. Offered starring contract by Sergio Leone. Has written on terrorists for thirty years. Believes the UK would have been more nurturing. Worked with Sergio Leone, John Huston. Plays produced in NYC, generally close limited runs with SRO audiences. These include the cinematic Hunger Grass, Sweet Dreams, Mistletoe, The Waiting Room, Moon Dance. Latest play is Fourth World. Two more presently in progress. Also writes screenplays and novels. Deirdre is the widow of Broadway actor Dermot McNamara and mother of actor Peter McNamara and dramatist Annaleese McNamara.
