Vladimir Vladimirovich Mayakovsky

VLADIMIR VLADIMIROVICH MAYAKOVSKY   (1893 - 1930)

Nationality:   Russian    Email:   n/a   Website:   n/a

Literary Agent:  n/a

Vladimir Mayakovsky was a poet and playwright. He was expelled from school for being in a Marxist group and later was sent to prison for agitating in the Bolshevik's cause. He joined a radical literary movement called the "Futurist Movement" - a group that wanted to discard the "classics" and meaning in poetry. He welcomed the Revolution but was disillusioned when Lenin came to power and his tastes in literature were found to be very conservative. Lenin believed that traditional art was better at building a communist society. Mayakovsky protested against this and until the authorities revoked his right to travel had constantly gone abroad to protest to a wider audience. Then for reasons that have never been determined he shot himself. In his suicide note he said that "this was not the way I do not recommend it to others"
