Mike Maxwell has been writing plays for the past 10 years. He has written 13 plays and had 11 of them produced both domestically on the community theater level and internationally at schools for English language programs. He has also written close to 60 "Saturday Night Live" style skits for a live sketch comedy show that performs in the Inland Empire. His show "Like Clockwork" won the Desert Theater League of Palm Springs' Best Original Writing Award in 2001 and his show "Jack Masterson & The Case of Absurdity" was nominated for the same category in 2002.

Heir to a misfortune

Synopsis:
In this short two act farce, Arthur Aldenbrooke has recently passed away leaving behind his three daughters and a large fortune. His oldest daughter, Violet, is sweet and innocent, while his younger daughters, Christa and Lynn are greedy trouble-makers. Nigel Wentworth, Arthur's attorney, shows up with the sealed will of the late millionaire with instructions to read it in front of a small handful of people. One of those people being Arthur's secret lady friend Gabriella, who is evil to the core and only wanted Arthur's money right from the start. Gabriella brings her idiot boyfriend Guy along for support in her scheming. As soon as everyone arrives Christa and Lynn plot to steal the real will and replace it with a false one. Meanwhile, Guy and Gabriella have their own intentions of stealing the will. The only problem is that since the will was in a sealed envelope, Hazel, the delightfully unintelligent maid mailed it.

I should tell you

Synopsis:
In this hilarious comedy in two acts, Trent Steele, a millionaire, is looking to buy the Grand Palace Massage Parlor with the intention of leveling the whole historic block that its on so he can put up one of his state-of-the-art skyscrapers. Well, Trent likes to deal only in cash which opens up an opportunity for Cory, a petty con artist, and Kaelan, his scheming bookie, to make some money. Cory poses as Trent when arriving at the Grand Palace to get Penny, the manager, and Lupe, the head masseuse, out of the way. Once this is accomplished Cory poses as the owner of the parlor when the real Trent arrives in order to get his hands on the cash. Things go awry when a nosey reporter obsessed with Trent shows up and figures out the scam when Cory tries to pass himself off as the man that she is determined to get her big story on. Trent's dumb body guard and wife also tag along on this business further complicating matters. Hijinks and slap stick comedy ensue as everyone tries to get their hands on the money.

Jack Masterson and the case of absurdity

Synopsis:
In this two act comedy, Jack Masterson has just started a private detective agency with his friend Lisa and they are awaiting their first case when Miss Lovely walks through their door in need of assistance. It seems that a priceless family heirloom of Miss Lovely's has gone missing and she needs Jack to find it for her. Jack gladly accepts the case and starts by checking out the scene of the crime and questions Miss Lovely's maid, Yvette and her obnoxious neighbor Sandra Moody. Jack comes to the conclusion that his old nemesis, Professor D. Veous must have some information on the whereabouts of the missing heirloom.

Notes:
This show was produced and performed at Theatre 29 in Twentynine Palms, California in 2001 and was presented as a Summer Youth Play. It was also nominated for Best Original Writing in 2002 by the Desert Theatre League of Palm Springs.

Wandering Bard's Tale, The

Synopsis:
When the Princess Dandelion is kidnapped by the evil sorcerer Jeff and his two sidekicks Cotton and Candy, King Monty (who lives in a hall, not a castle because it sounds better) sends his servant Max to rescue her. Max is aided by a wandering bard, named Pip, who helps Max rescue the headstrong Princess (who gets kidnapped once a month, usually) using a magical necklace and the power of a sneeze to defeat him!

Notes:
This play has been successfully staged and performed for a number of elementary schools in America and it ran for a year. It is a fantasy about the power of friendship and was used to get children interested in the arts.
