The first half of the play explores their attempts to survive in what is often an oppressive environment. Synopsis: *Writing Award Winner* The focus of this play is on familiar family relationships and the destructive tensions that exist between the generations. An uneventful evening meal at the Mainwaring's gradually develops into a tense confrontation between two proud parents and their sons. Underlying the facade of comfortable domestic order there are hidden pressures on the two boys as they try to assert their independence. At the climax, both father and mother take control and the family bonds are shattered - a serious theme but treated with plenty of humour. | ||||
