Anna works on the artistic fringes of London. She breaks up with her fiancée because he has taken a job with a woman's magazine. She waits for Dave a rootless American she has an on again off again relationship. Her landlady and her married lover pop in and complain about each other before heading off to the pub. Janet pregnant by Dave arrives - she is one of Dave's girls. When she leaves Dave arrives.
