Synopsis:
BAM presents the New York premiere of choreographer and conceptual artist Ralph Lemon's latest work, How Can You Stay in the House All Day and Not Go Anywhere? Co-commissioned by BAM for the 2010 Next Wave Festival, this multimedia dance piece explores the themes of human connection, loss, and the elusive but ever-compelling possibility of grace. Inspired by Lemon's creative relationship with Walter Carter, a Mississippi Delta native born at the turn of the century, and Russian avant-garde filmmaker Andrei Tarkovsky's 1972 film Solaris, this four-part project consists of live performance, film, and visual art. How Can You Stay... features bodies honed by years of dance training and bodies honed by decades of physical laborcontemporary artists with an urban 21st-century sensibility and a former sharecropper in a rural southern community.
