Biography and Notes (further contributions welcome) :

Following his involvement in amateur theatre in East London and a short period of training at Webber Douglas School Academy for Drama where he decided the professional actors' life was not for him, Ken wrote his first full length play, THE IRON VOICE. This was subsequently produced and published. Many one act and occasional full length plays followed winning several awards in festivals in the UK. During this time he managed an amateur group in East London; acting in and directing his own and other playwright's work plus working with local amateur groups and two South London Little Theatre Clubs. He entered the field of drama documentary in 1974 by scripting and directing a community play on the re-siting and eventual destruction of the Crystal Palace in Sydenham. Of his present out put 22 plays have been produced and 7 published. In addition there has been the experience of the obligatory 'clutch' of scripts for live TV plus a couple of short radio play awards. Now being resident in Normandy, has inspired THAT MAN MELMOTH and THE ZOLA AFFAIR. A double bill of plays contrasting Oscar Wilde's brief sojourn near Dieppe after his release from prison with Emile Zola's stand for Captain Dreyfus, resulting in his exile to England.

Ken Lucas     I Dreamt I Dwelt In Marble Halls
Company
Synopsis:

Believing utterly in the power of illusion to sell, Jon Shale promotes art from his fantasised studio. One of his string of artists, Patrick Lownes, has had an affair with Miranda, a friend of Jon's. Soon after the artist commits suicide. Obsessed with his own powers of illusion, Jon convinces Miranda, herself a slick sales demonstrator, that though extremely talented, Patrick's paintings were impossible to sell and he knew it. The suicide was a bid for immortality. Later, Jon is forced to judge as worthless some paintings left to his cleaner by Patrick. Jon is devastated by the revelation. Now it is Miranda who forces him to recognise her ability by marshalling her marketing techniques to restore his ego and so create Jon's ultimate illusion.

Ken Lucas     Marriage A La Fleet
Company
Synopsis:

This is the world of the rumbustious 18th century. Fleet Street, London, where the sprightly French Huguenot emigre, Jessica, struggles to wed her simple Newcastle sailor in a society that has no sympathy for the dissenting. Where the avaricious 'Corporal' Jack Bentall, has converted his tavern into a 'marriage chapel' to exploit such couples and employs pimps and heavily indebted clergy. The high principles and humanity of Samuel Johnson jostle with gutter cunning for dominance in a capital - of easily coined morals. This licentious romp in Georgian England is enacted on its rump.
