Synopsis: | Focus Theatre is proud to kick off the 2011 season with the premiere of Love in Dublin: two new plays about life, love and desire in contemporary Dublin, written and directed by award-winning playwright Paul Kennedy. Both plays create worlds that are simultaneously strikingly real and bizarrely poetic, and explore art and love, loss and obsession in this new Dublin. Michael Bates, a favourite in Focus Theatre's 2010 hit Tic, returns to the Focus stage as Matt in Down by the River. Matt's marriage is teetering on the brink of collapse. His wife Suzie is restless, and an enrolment in a night class leads to a bizarre sequence of events that threatens to push their marriage over the brink. As events unfold, Matt is lead on a merry chase into a realm of darkness and deceit, in search of a love that may already be lost. Be My Love in the Rain sees Michael joined by the energetic and versatile Linda Teehan, in her first performance at Focus Theatre. Janet and her friends are having a girls' night out: drinking and dancing, eyeing up the talent. Janet has a brief encounter with a stranger, which leads to love - and obsession. It creates a world that is at once strikingly real and tenderly poetic. The on-stage action is complemented by the conversion of part of the Focus building into a contemporary art gallery. Music is by up-and-coming experimental Irish folk duo, Cocophone, whose debut EP is available for download at cocophone.bandcamp.com. Love in Dublin promises to be a warm, entertaining and poignant evening of new Irish drama, art and music. | |||||
