Notes: The authors' construction and fantasy of Limbo derives from themes, images, and devices they discovered in Ariosto's Orlando Furioso, Dante's Inferno, Pope's Rape of the Lock, and Orpheus and Eurydice.
Synopsis: Looking for Limbo is a dark, humorous, absurdity-laced bluesical/ poperetta; a meditation on desire, displacement, isolation, and fantasy. The show follows Baby, who arrives in Limbo at the time of the Vatican 's decision to eliminate it from their popular belief system. Limbo is located on the earth's moon and is the receptacle for the souls of unbaptized infants, worthy pagans, and other moral misfits. These diapered, dusty characters occupy a bar called "The Lurch", where they spend their eternal night guzzling cocktails of mortal wastevain desire, wasted talent, squandered youth, etc. Something like the faeries of Neverland, the citizens of Limbo believe their existence to be dependent on the beliefs of mortals. Already long-time occupants of the void, they now find themselves further disenfranchised, stripped of their citizenship from the realm of belief. They must reckon with what this means, while Baby embarks on a mission to rescue their underworld.
