Evelyn

Synopsis:
Written and directed by Julia May Jonas and developed at the Bushwick Starr, Evelyn is the next offering by up-and-coming company, Nellie Tinder. An operatic fever-dream delivered by a chorus of some of downtown's smartest new female talent, Evelyn is an idiosyncratic mash-up: a haunting yet humorously parodic love letter to things past, unfolding like Girl Interrupted meets Ken Russell's the Devils for secular thirty-somethings. the women of Pennsylvania are making good progress-with talk therapy, group therapy, dance therapy and their strange, secret visits to the surrounding druid wood. But when a luminous film star is committed to their mysterious facility, her iridescence threatens the fragile strands of sanity the women have left. A stranger-comes-to-town story, with a live-score composed by Jon Lundbom and performed by the cast, Evelyn uses Nellie Tinder's unique stylization of movement, music and text to explore the relationship of reality to artifice, even in the most Dramatic of situations.

For Artists Only

Synopsis:
Nellie Tinder's For artists Only is a subversive 21st century comedy of manners following three young female artists spending the summer doing battle at a New england country home. the work unfolds as a hyper-intimate performance pushed upstage and amplified, taking on a filmic quality. Jennie and Julia escape to a country house for the summer, only to find that life in New england feels more claustrophobic than rush hour on the L train. Culled from the paintings of Balthus, the music of Henry Purcell, the films of Truffaut, and the novels of D.H. Lawrence, For artists Only is an intricate diorama of female friendship and the violence that lingers beneath its surface.
