Synopsis: | 'Vampingo. . .a comedy with bite' is a darkly comedic play about a woman, Alwyn, who is finding her way through her own hall of mirrors, trying to see through and into the shadows. Alwyn has used various 'coping tools' to help her through the rough patches, i.e. cutting, drinking, taking the odd pill now and again. . .Now her demons have come out to play, and her tenuous grasp on reality is slipping. She's taunted by two small, lizardy creatures, seduced by a demonic lothario, and serenaded by a giant eel, leading her into a series of 'Suicidal Tendencies' meetings, where she encounters a variety of characters. There, ultimately, she begins to heal. . .aided by a very strange flamingo. Although 'Vampingo' utilizes a sense of magic and the surreal, it's a human story. The show explores human foibles and the fragile nature of our dreams with humor: when adversity strikes, it's laughter, creativity and our connections with each other that empower us to become whole again. | |||||
