Gillian Hiscott was born in Plymouth, Devon and now lives in Cornwall where she first discovered a love of theatre. Whilst her two sons were growing up she joined the local amateur group and became an active member as actress, backstage help, director and finally writer of scripts. Her first script, an adaptation of Emily Bronte's Wuthering Heights performed at the Primraf Theatre in Callington in 1994 and went on to tour Northern fringe theatres by a small professionally trained band of actors called the Millstone Grit Theatre. She then wrote adaptations of Jane Austen's Mansfield Park and Marie Corelli's Vendetta, which sat on the shelf for several years until 2006 when she met professional actor Ralph Mondi, who fell in love with Vendetta. Together they formed The Library Theatre Ltd. solely to tour it at fringe venues with Ralph both directing and acting and Gillian producing. The production toured British theatre festivals including Brighton, Bath and Edinburgh where it achieved a coveted four star rating by Three Weeks. Another actor in the group, Christopher Gutmann took an active role when Ralph left and in 2007 directed Mansfield Park at Upstairs at the Gatehouse in Highgate London where it achieved much critical attention. Both these plays were taken on by Jasper and remain available for performance. In 2008 Gillian studied for and achieved an MA in Playwriting and Script Development at Exeter University. Two plays developed on the course, Love in Vain in Love and The Young Diana, had the benefit of being directed by trained and skilful directors at rehearsed readings at the university and both scripts are now offered for performance and open to interpretation. She would love to see one of those! Gillian has also written a full length novel Lady in Chains, which achieved an online bestselling rating for it's category with a prominent uk book retailer. She still loves to work in community theatre whenever she can and the thrill of seeing her work come alive. Author recently qualified with an MA in Playwriting and Script Devlelopment

Notes: | from novel by Jane Austen
Synopsis: | Jane Austen's novels have been endlessly adapted for TV, film and theatre with mixed success. Austen's sharp take on 19th-century society and verbal interplay especially lends itself to theatrical interpretation; Mansfield Park in particular offers a host of colourful characters in dramatic exchanges, a self-contained setting and even a play set within the story. Lowly Fanny Price has been catapulted into the high society of her relations, the Bertram family of Mansfield Park, where love triangles, scandal and tests of morality ensue
