Synopsis: | explores the inner most thoughts and frustrations of the singer who was the victim of 60's decadence and self-destructive hedonism. The play is set in The Landmark Hotel on the night of her premature death on October 4th 1970. She had spent the day recording vocal tracks for her album 'Pearl' and had then been out for a few drinks with fellow musicians. When she arrived back to her hotel room she injected what was to be her fatal dose of heroin. This is the moment we join the story. Nicola Haydn takes the audience on a journey through the ups and downs of Joplin's career and personal life giving an insight into the woman behind the legend. Reinventing the essence of Joplin, she switches effortlessly between the dual personality of the singer, the vulnerable and insecure Janis and her brassy alter ego Pearl, as her life unknowingly flashes before her eyes | |||||
