| Synopsis: | Stephen and Barbary Leigh come across nine year old Tod in the library. They take the youngster under their wing even though Barbary does not like the youngster. Tod's violent father beats him and then has to leave for America before the police catch up with him. Stephen and Barbary arrange to adopt Tod - although Barbary is not willing. Tod gets into some scrape with the neighbours and Stephen is forced to chastise him severally. Tod seemingly runs away. His father returns with a dubious woman he has married. He makes threats to Stephen if his son is not returned. Tod who has been hiding in the house overhears and agrees to go with his father. Later he returns in a bedraggled state - followed by the police. His father has been murdered and the police think Tod was responsible. | |||||
