Brian Guehring- As the playwright-in-residence for the Omaha Theater Company for Young People, Brian has adapted the world premiere scripts of the Newbery Award winning novel Julie of the Wolves (directed by Everett Quinton), the Newbery Honor Book Millions of Cats, The Tall Tale Heroes and Heroines of Americana Show, Holiday Time Around the World, and Sacagawea: Discovering History. Brian's scripts have won several national and regional awards. His world premiere adaptation of Where the Red Fern Grows won the 2002 AATE (American Alliance for Theater and Education) Unpublished Play Project. His script The Bully Show was selected for the 2002 New Visions/New Voices new play development workshop at the Kennedy Center. Brian received a playwriting fellowship from the Nebraska Arts Council in 2002. His original script King Chemo won the Southwest Theater Association's 1997 Best New Play for Children, and his original play Creating Haley's World was selected in 2003 by the Children's Theatre Assocaition for development in the inaugural Playwrights in the Schools program. His plays have also been professionally produced by the Lexington Children's Theater, AD Players in Texas, Apple Tree Theatre in Illinois, Barter Theater in Virginia, the South Carolina Children's Theater and more. Brian Guehring earned his MFA in creative drama/children's theater from University of Texas at Austin with a focus on playwriting for young audiences. At the Omaha Theater Company, Brian also serves as the Education Director and a master teacher , a member of the resident acting company, the director of his nationally recognized teen theater troupe Pride Players, and has performed in several of the OTC Ballet productions.
