Stephen Greenhorn

Gilt is the result of an innovative and possibly unique collaboration. Three of Scotland's best writers have worked together on the one play, creating seven characters whose worlds collide and interweave to create a modern mosiac about money and love. Each of the characters is traying to work out the best currency in which to conduct their dealings with the outside world. They are all guilty victims of love or money or both.

adapted from the book King Matt The First by Janusz Korczak, translated by Richard Lourie

Stephen Greenhorn

The story of a boy who becomes a king, is a simple fable filled with surprisingly complex resonances. In common with the very best in storytelling for children, it confronts the big moral issues surrounding the way in which one makes one's way in the world and through life - self-interest vying with self-sacrifice, the greed of the individual with the needs of the collective. The boy-king Matt is undoubtedly the hero of the tale but it is his human faults and frailties as well as his intrepid spirit that keep us on the edge of our seats right up to the suspense-filled ending. This is a play written for children that children would have great fun playing for themselves

hese performances will be the culmination of a five week course for young people aged between 14 and 21 taking part in this year's Scottish Youth Theatre's highly acclaimed Summer Festival. This course allows its participants to explore and experience all that is involved in creating live theatre.

Synopsis:

Pinocchio is based on Carlo Collodi's famous story about a wooden puppet who comes to life. This summer Scottish Youth Theatre's production will take you back to the original darker tale about a boy who finds it very hard to be good. With each new temptation, Pinocchio comes a step closer to his deepest wish, but the closer he gets, the harder the journey gets. Beautifully presented, and with entertaining performances from the rising talent in Scotland today, it's a show that's not to be missed.

Stephen Greenhorn

The Salt Wound ushers in not only the monumental sea but also an almost oppressive awareness of a close-knit fishing community with all its orthodoxies, traditions and celebrations. Greenhorn does a convincing job of taking the classical passions of Greek tragedy and transposing them to a modern setting. Everyone is right and wrong. No-one can do anything about it . . . It holds an audience gripped.
