Bells Are Ringing

Setting: 1956. New York City. In Bells Are Ringing, a lonely girl who runs an answering service falls for a client she has met only by voice, and typical 1950s mayhem ensues. The score, by turns brassy, sweet and romantic, includes "Just in Time," "The Party's Over," "I Met a Girl," "Long Before I Knew You," and a fistful of other great tunes from one of Broadway's greatest tunesmiths.

On the Twentieth Century

After four flops in a row, megalomaniac theatre impresario, Oscar Jaffee, and his hapless entourage are on the run. Desperately trying to resuscitate his flat-lining career he books a carriage on the Twentieth Century Limited, the world's most famous express train, bound for New York. In the next carriage resides his former sweetheart turned Hollywood starlet Lily Garland. Now Oscar has just 16 hours to entice the egotistical Lily back on to the stage, as the leading lady in his next show. Oscar's financial ruin hangs in the balance and a jealous lover is on the loose. Offered funding by religious fanatic Letitia Peabody Primrose, Jaffee's dreams fall into a glorious, and by turns hilarious, balancing act of keeping everyone happy. Set against a backdrop of the great American Depression of the 1930s, what unfolds is a tongue-in-cheek fairy tale of the pitfalls of producing theatre when cash is tight and private money comes at an unavoidable cost.

Subways Are For Sleeping

One of David Merrick's notorious "flops," Subways Are For Sleeping tells the tale of a Angie, a lady reporter sent to get the scoop on a segment of NYC society that lives by their own rules. These carefree souls take up odd jobs to earn enough to get a place to sleep and food to eat, eschewing a drone-like existence. When Angie learns how the other half lives, she begins to see there might be another way to experience the world.

Will Rogers Follies, The

The life of Will Rogers as told by Will and with embellishments from Florenz Ziegfield. At nineteen Will runs away from home and goes to South America to be a cowboy. He meets the love of his life - Betty Blake on a train. Ziegfield decides that this is not romantic enough - so instead of the train she floats down from the sky seated on the moon. Some years later Will is playing in a Wild West Revue and he marries Betty. Ziegfield says that a grand wedding should be the finale of act one. So Will and Betty have four children and Will goes to work at the Ziegfield Follies where he becomes a huge success. He is also a radio star now and he is just about to leave for Hollywood when Ziegfield says it is nearly time for the interval - so they have the grand wedding. In Hollywood Will is also a great success - he is asked to run for President. Ziegfield looses his fortune and the Depression gets worse. President Hoover asks Will to broadcast to the Nation to boost morale. He does and everyone is inspired. In Alaska he goes for a plane ride with his friend Wiley - they never come back.
