Synopsis: | Witches' Sabbath: France, Fourteenth Century, a time of wars. An impoverished knight, held two years by his English captors, returns to his barony without horse and armour, embittered by his wife's failure to ransom him. Now he is intolerably wounded to learn of his wife's infidelity. Rejecting the regional Inquisitor's offer of help to restore him to power, he institutes his own inquisition to compel compliance with his demands. There follows his retainers' mass rape of a serf on her wedding night, their murder of her husband and a witches' Sabbath uprising at this outrage; the Baron is himself charged with heresy as is his Lady.
