Playwright, educator, and accountant. Born in Kingston, Jamaica. Became a U.S. citizen in 1963. Educated at San Diego State Univ. (B.Sc. in accounting, 1967) and the Univ. of California at San Diego (Ph.D. in English and American literature, 1980). His doctoral dissertation, entitled "The Manichean Leitmotif," "deals with the ideology and psychology of racism in American fiction." Also wrote The Captain and His Crew (children's story, 1972).
