Biography of Clem Gorman

I was a pioneer in experimental theatre in Australia, setting up the first non-linear, multi-media performance ensemble in 1969 in Sydney. At Sydney University Dramatic Society in the mid 60s I was a pioneer in bringing Absurd theatre to Australia. My most-performed play A Manual of Trench Warfare was the first Australian play to tackle the issue of homosexuality. In London during the early 1970s I was a pioneer in the development of Performance Art. I have had nine plays staged professionally all over Australia, and a couple in USA. Nine non fiction books: about rock music, communal living, Sydney Harbor, Larrikinism, Dramaturgy, Ceremonial Theatre. Taught playwriting at a number of universities and Australian Studies at two American ones including Georgetown University. lived in London during the 70s, worked as arts administrator. Currently developing film version of my most successful play, A Manual of Trench Warfare, and a novel. I live north of Sydney on the beach with my wife Therese.
