Joy wrote her first play, 'The Magic Pumpkin', whilst a pupil at St Mary Abbott's School, Kensington, for her classmates, aged 10. She wrote her second play 'The Unnecessary Fourth' in 2014, based on the life and works of 'Saki'. During the not inconsiderable gap, Joy lived in Paris and on return to London, worked in recruitment advertising; and later became involved in organising the first rock and roll concert at The Royal Opera House, which guest starred Brian May, Bryan Adams and Michael Kamen, in aid of The Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund. Joy devised and co-produced 'when love speaks' a CD of 48 Shakespearean Sonnets sung and spoken by the great and the good, including Richard Attenborough, Imelda Staunton, Alan Rickman, Annie Lennox, John Hurt, Diana Rigg, Rufus Wainwright, Ralph Fiennes and Kenneth Branagh. Lauded on its release in 2002 as 'an embarrassment of riches' - a criticism she was happy to embrace - all proceeds from sales go to RADA. It was a wonderful experience for Joy to record such a plethora of talent and fascinating to witness each actor's approach to their Sonnet. The launch of the CD took place at the Old Vic. Joyful Productions is a one woman band set up to record audio books, and there are now over 60 Joyful titles available to download via Amazon/Audible - see www.joyfulproductions.co.uk for those and other marvels, including 'Clatterbox', a children's picture book character in search of a publisher. Joy has adapted Noel Coward's only novel, 'Pomp and Circumstance', into five fifteen minute episodes for radio. With approval already obtained from the Coward Estate, and under the auspices of CPL, the scripts have been shortlisted by the Commissioning Editor for Drama at BBC Radio 4. Following participation in the first new writers' workshop at The Criterion Theatre led by Greg Mosse, Joy expanded a sketch into a light comedy in two acts, 'The Read Through'. A 30 minute extract was performed at a Criterion Showcase for New Writing in November 2015, starring Sebastian de Souza and directed by Tom Syms, and got a great reception. Next stop, the complete production. She pitched an idea for a musical at Theatre Royal Stratford East to the BEAM:16 panel, and is poised to become a member of MMD; and on her home ground in Norfolk, she is making the most of the thriving theatre scene, and is networking like mad. Joy is currently busy writing two diverse projects - one an eye popping account of the witch hunts perpetrated on lesbians in the British Army 1971 - 2000; and the other a full blown, out and out, no holds barred, all singing, all dancing musical about the Hero of the Adelphi melodramas, and trying not to muddle the two.
