Synopsis: | Set in Kabul's synagogue, Michael J Flexer's two-hander is based on the real-life last two Jews of Afghanistan. They hated each other. In Flexer's version the duo are each steeped in status anxiety. Both claim the synagogue as their own. It might be stretching a point to take Flexer's play as an allegory for the way religion can be turned into a cheap piety contest by the religious - but the lesson is there for those who want it. It is a funny premise, which, in Flexer's enjoyable hour-long production, is played mainly for laughs as the insults fly to the sound of dropping American bombs. | |||||
