Alex Finlayson is the author of fifteen plays and screenplays. Her plays, MISFITS and TOBACCOLAND, were commissioned by the Royal Exchange Theatre, Manchester (Greg Hersov, director). the Royal exchange also produced her Mobil Prize-winning play, WINDING the BALL, which won a sweep of favourable notices, as well as a Manchester evening News Drama Critics Award for actor David Schofield. these three plays are published by Oberon Books. Her play, LADIeS SIDe, was nominated for a Helen Hayes Award (Washington DC) and WORLD OF BeAUTY won the Texas Playwrights Festival, Stages Theatre in Houston. Other work includes a teleplay adaptation of Rumer Goddens In This House of Brede (MartonFilm, NYC); a multimedia one-woman show, TRUDI, commissioned by Duke University and researched in Chiapas, Mexico with the aid of a North Carolina Artists Grant; a stage adaptation of the OUTCRY by Henry James; and a stage comedy, WHY MeN HATe WOMeN. Two screenplays optioned by Gifthorse Productions, UK are WHeN SPARROWS FALL (based on Zinita Fowlers the Last Innocent Summer)and UNSUITABLe WIVeS (an adaptation of Barbara Pyms No Fond Return of Love.) Alex lives in San Diego, where she also writes for an Arts and entertainment weekly.
