Every Last Trick

My dear fellow. Dreadfully sorry. Ill be marrying your wife.. A charming politician and his glamorous new wife evoke a picture of marital bliss. Her first husband was a liar and a cheat. Her second is a different batch of chromosomes altogether. Not only is he chairman of the Feminist Forum but he clearly adores her. He says so, repeatedly, usually on Thursday nights when he goes out to stretch his legs. Her suspicions are obviously hormonal. But when he resorts to illusion to maintain the delusion, well, theres a lot of confusion. If experience has taught her anything its the need to fight fire with fire, lies with more lies and every last trick with pure magic. . .

Flea In Her Ear, A

a FLea IN HeR eaR is the greatest of French farces, perhaps the greatest farce ever written. Raymonde Chandebise suspects that her husband, Victor, a placid and successful insurance executive, is secretly having an affair. To find out, she and her friend Lucienne write him an anonymous love letter suggesting a rendezvous at theshady Frisky Puss Hotel. Thinking the letter was intended for his coworker, the gigoloTournel, Victor sends Tournel off to make the rendezvous in his place. Lucienne'sjealous Spanish husband, meanwhile, finds the letter, recognizes his wife's handwritingand takes his pistols to the Frisky Puss, hoping to catch her in the act. Meanwhile,Victor's nephew Camille tries to warn everyone about the mix-up, but his ridiculousspeech impediment prevents anyone from understanding him. In act Two, all decampto the Frisky Puss where, it turns out, the drunken bellboy Poche is the exact double ofthe proper Victor Chandebise. Meeting Poche and thinking she's been caught by herhusband, Raymonde keeps trying to escape from the hotel with Tournel, but arevolving bed keeps flinging them from room to room, as more and more of theinvolved parties pile into the hotel in a climax culminating in the entrance of thejealous Spaniard and his pistols. In act Three the vortex spins even faster as all theparties return to the Chandebise home utterly confused about what actually happenedand who was who at the Frisky Puss. the drunken bellboy arrives, is mistaken onceagain for Victor, and all the threads of the multiple mix-ups are sorted out as Victorand Raymonde recognize their mutual confusions and are reunited.

Original Playwrights - Georges Feydeau and Maurice Desvallieres. The universal mark of good satire is still to make audiences laugh at the worst traits in human nature. Here, in his own words, is how Morris Panych updated these three great comedy classics from a century ago:

Hotel Peccadillo

There are certain literary subjects that hardly change over time; sex isnt one of them. Take Viagra and cosmetic surgery, for example. These are fertile subjects for absurd comedy particular to our time. With Hotel Peccadillo, I wanted to play up, but also comment on the notion of hypocrisy as it relates to in?delitythe play was written a hundred years ago, without the hind-sight of Feydeaus own death from syphilis. To that end, I made the author the landlord of his bordelloto include him in the farce, to heighten the irony.

Original Playwright - Georges Feydeau. freely translated and adapted from Tailleur Pour Dames.

Synopsis:

In Belle epoque Paris, the recently married Dr. Hercule Molineaux tells "one, tiny, little, hardly noticeable lie" to cover an innocent but embarrassing indiscretion. From that single untruth tumbles a cascade of increasingly convoluted deceptions, misunderstandings and mistaken identities. Compounding Molineaux's troubles are a suspicious wife, a gorgon of a mother-in-law, an outrageously aggressive female patient, her violently jealous Prussian husband, a well-intentioned friend with a serious lisp, a valet with attitude, a maid with a secret and more slamming doors than realistic architecture should ever accommodate, all adding up to a hilariously zany and infectiously charming farce.

One That Got Away, The

Monsieur Duchotel, a Parisienne businessman, has a roving eye and a lust for. . .fishing trips. It turns out he has been casting his line in uncharted waters and he's not the only one. His best-friend, Dr.Moricet, has a passion for poetry and a longing for Leontine - Duchotel's beautiful and trusting young wife. Then there's Gontran, Duchotel's randy young nephew, who's always after a handout, and Madame Latour, a concierge who was once a countess married to a lion-tamer. . .Feydeau's uproarious farce brilliantly incorporates all the classic elements of the genre. Behind the shutters at 40, Rue d'Athenes, Dr Moricet's love-nest becomes the venue for a whole shoal of illicit rendez-vous, ridiculous cover stories and bungling policemen. As doors slam, would-be lovers hide in closets and men find their trousers round their ankles, this glorious concoction will have you hooked.

Britain in the 1970s: a time of strikes, blackouts, and free love. But Philip's frustrated. While his wife Angela thinks he's past it, he wants to share a whole lotta love with Catherine from next door. When the naughty neighbours check in at the Paradise Hotel, it's a night to remember - for all the wrong reasons. The lights go out, the corridors see more action than the beds, and to cap it all, the place could be haunted... Throw in Fanny the French maid, Detective Inspector Connors of the Vice Squad, a snake called Cecil and Tom the mynah bird, and it all makes for a chaotic cocktail of confusion leaving the would-be lovebirds not even halfway to Paradise.
