        Brooklyn Affair, A

Brooklyn Affair, A

Synopsis:
It's the Spring of 1969 in Brooklyn Heights, New York. This is the story of a forgotten man, which at one time teetered on the brink of a blooming playwriting career in theatre. His apartment faces the picturesque Brooklyn Bridge with the cityscape of Manhattan looming in the background. His name is Marvin Porter and for the last fourteen years has isolated himself from the rest of the world. He now spends his days hitting the keys of his old Underwood typewriter orchestrating sentimental obituaries for the Gotham Gazette. He's one of many, a tragic survivor from the dark cloud, which overshadowed America in the early fifties, singled out, and venomously discarded. It was during the infamous days of McCarthy's witch-hunt. every Thursday, like clockwork, his older brother George Porter, who is part of the NYPD vice squad, delivers groceries. their relationship is fractured from prior dysfunctional years, involving issues derived from their mother's troublesome past. George refuses to accept Marvin's languished fate, but lacks patience in offering any resolve. the proprietor and manager of the building, sixty-five year old, German born, Sidy Bloomfeld, a longtime friend of the Porter family, is his only guardian, providing him a gentle hand of support. as life often does, crossing our paths with unknown situations, and unimaginable characters, shifting our perceptions, and direction, so walks into his life, Olivia Merryweather, his new next door neighbor, an english actress starring in an off-Broadway play. She is chaperoned here from england by her agent, Lawrence Miller. and, mysteriously moving, in and out, of this peculiar Brooklyn story, is Baxter Hennessey. He is Marvin's longtime friend, an english actor, whose own past is held secret until the concluding moments of the affair. these are the eclectic players in this Brooklyn love affair, between two unassuming individuals, which fate has unknowingly brought together. as in most tales of love, it is most successful when the parties look beyond the obvious, venturing to see instead, the many possibilities. Marvin Porter, a victim of bigotry and defamation, is soon destined to experience, a Brooklyn affair, in the Spring of 1969, the summer of love.
