Elise Forier Edie is a professional playwright and author. Her award-winning scripts have been produced all over the country, in New York and Los Angeles, as well as such far-flung places as Jonesboro, Arkansas, and McCall, Idaho. She is best known for her family musicals (written with composer, Tina Lear),Cathy's Creek (winner of the Bonderman/IUPUI Award and published by Dramatic Publishing, Inc), Valerie and the Bear (developed by id Theatre at Seven Devils Playwrights Conference) and Rebel Girls (developed at Cap 21), but she has also written scripts for adult audiences, two of which, La Lloronaand The Last Stand of the Comanche Rider, were selected for development at the National Playwrights Conference at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre Center. Born in Vancouver, BC, raised in Washington, DC, Elise received her MFA in Playwriting at the University of Arizona, under the tutelage of Sam Smiley. She has taught playwriting and theatre arts at Central Washington University, Northland Pioneer College, and Fountain Valley School. Elise also specializes in the creation of devised pieces and has worked with community groups of all ages. She combines Richard Schechner's rasaboxes movement techniques with improvisation, mythological motifs and explorations around historical events. Most recently, she collaborated with Central Washington University students on the creation of Challenger, a full length devised piece about the 1986 space shuttle explosion. Elise's one-woman show The Pink Unicorn was developed with support from Blue Mountain Center, Kent Stephens' Stage Force and DogTown Theatre. She is married to actor Keith Edie and lives in southern California. In addition to writing plays and musicals, she writes speculative fiction novels and short stories. Her fiction is available in bookstores and, of course, on Amazon. When she is not writing, she likes to make quilts and soup, but rarely at the same time.
