| Synopsis: | The NYTW production this year is, for the first time ever, written by young people themselves. Early in Tim Baker's period as Artistic Director he formed a group of young writers who have been meeting and working together ever since. They have invented a modern day Welsh community, typical of any town in Wales yet like no other, and the show follows the fortunes of its inhabitants, both living and dead, during one day. It is a typical day - yet at the same time - like no other as the past haunts, and the present suggests an uncertain future. Somewhere in the early morning a distraught girl steps onto a bridge parapet, while at lunchtime celebrations begin for the marriage of the year, and at dusk a shot rings out in Afghanistan. . . As in the past two years this will be a big ensemble production combining comedy with great drama, with songs, music, movement and a strong bilingual element. | |||||

| Notes: | A Toy Epic, a new drama adapted by Manon Eames from Emyr Humphreys' prize-winning novel, is a moving evocation of lost innocence and destiny in a Welsh community where the future seems suddenly fragile and uncertain. | |||||
| Synopsis: | "I rushed out of the house and down the grass road to the mill, to think about My Destiny. I really think he might surprise us one day by doing Something Quite Remarkable. I lay down under a tree and stared at the miraculous sky. What was it I could do?" A Toy Epic is a touching drama of childhood, friendship and coming of age in a seaside town in North Wales from the 1920s until the outbreak of War. It follows the journey of three boys - Michael, Albie and Iorwerth - as they each, in a different way, strive to realise their own possibilities and escape the restrictions of life in a small town by following their dreams. | |||||
