She telephones her Mother with the news. Various friends turn up - Sarah who designs annie's clothes, Griffith the set designer, Mrs Turner her dresser, Willy a self oppressed gay man. Paddy is not very happy with the news that annie is going to New York. He proposes to annie - who is thrown by the offer. But she agrees to marry Paddy and turn down the Broadway job. Then Paddy is offered a seemingly great part in a movie - to be filmed on location in Israel. annie is upset that he did not tell her about it before accepting the part and that he automatically assumes she will come with him. They quarrel and part. American Equity turn down annie as they say an American actor could easily do the part. Paddy discovers the role is so small that is not worth doing. When the couple next meet they both pretend to have turned down the offers to stay with each other - but the truth will out.
