DISPLACE YOURSELF THEATRE

Nationality:    British
email:    n/a     Website:    n/a

Literary Agent:    n/a

Displace Yourself Theatre are an ambitious devising company who create challenging productions to shine a light on global injustices and challenges in society. They create carefully crafted physical storytelling that takes audiences on energetic and visual explorations of new worlds. Their productions are thoughtful, vigorous and powerful, not afraid to ask the difficult questions or confront the important issues of our time. The sociopolitical work is reflected in their distinctive form, often using projection, live performers, minimal props and precise energetic movement scores. At the heart of Displace Yourself's productions lies a thorough and intimate process of devising, working closely with the people that the productions are about. Displace Yourself are welcomed into communities that have first hand experience of the themes of their shows and build lasting relationships. Involving the audience at all stages of the show's development through live events, discussions and holistic workshops, is as important and essential as the performance itself. They engage with people who are likely to have experienced trauma both here in the UK and overseas, providing arts opportunities for these groups and encouraging expression through movement. Displace Yourself have been selected as an emerging company at Venues North, The West Yorkshire Playhouse's Furnace, Pulse Festival in Ipswich and The Civic Barnsley's CARP Residency.

        Eden

Eden

Synopsis:
The year is 2044 and Earth is a lifeless wasteland. The only chance of survival is to be accepted into Eden, a city enclosed in a protective dome where the inhabitants are free from the dangers of the Outside but the promise of paradise may not be all that it seems. Eden follows two individuals, their emotional journey of social exclusion, and their struggle to survive in a world where there is little room for forgiveness. Dynamic movement is fused with poetic text and woven throughout is a powerfully composed soundtrack. Using satirical commentary and physical interpretation, Displace Yourself Theatre present parallels of the challenges surrounding homelessness and explore the social divides that exclude many communities.
