Synopsis: | Incubator Arts Project and award-winning theater ensemble Performance Lab 115 team up to present The Ring Cycle (Parts 1-4), slamming Wagner's operas into the no-holds-barred world of professional wrestling. In this provocative new work, the creative team strips out the songs and amps up the testosterone to complete their critically acclaimed adaptation. Following the premiere of Parts 1+2 at The Bushwick Starr, Performance Lab 115 will perform all four parts in a single action-packed evening. Part I introduces Wagner's Norse gods as wrestlers pumped up on rock & roll and steroids on a mission for power and glory. Part 2 takes Wagners story down to earth in a rural backwater where the children of Woton, king of the gods, inherit their fathers misfortune in an incestuous love story. The story culminates in a fantastic rumble of corrupt powers in Parts 3 and 4, and asks if love can redeem us from our selfish quest for fame and influence. By re-contextualizing Wagner's themes of pride and power in the materialistic landscape of 1980's America, PL115 sheds new light on Wagner's epic tale and the lessons it holds for our own world. | |||||
