When Margaret Toulmin a lecturer in Black History comes to visit their school to talk to them, both boys seem very disinterested and do their utmost to disrupt the class. After a well-deserved detention the boys are without warning transported back in time to the world of slavery, lynchings', witch-hunts and oppression. They meet four black historical figures but instead of just observing their lives and learning from them, they become the characters in history. Every pain felt, every moment relived. They are no longer in charge of their destiny. If their past characters die so do they. They cannot risk bringing the present into the past. They cannot change the order of things. But these are 15 year old boys. Its in their genetic make up NOT to listen to anyone older than 16 let alone their elders. Is it just a dream or are they in a nightmare they can't escape from? | |||||
