The action of the play takes place inside the head of Private Jones. It is morning and Phones who co-ordinates Private Jones' movements is getting a reading from the rib cage that Jones is being kicked. He calls for Sir who oversees all the operations. Sir arrives and finds that Eyes, Ears, Mouth and Nose are not on duty. They are all call in and awake their Man. They have great trouble co-ordinating his movements to put on his boots as they are all arguing amongst themselves. Eventually the boots are put on and they steer Jones to the breakfast table. Much to their annoyance he has baked beans again.There is a war going on and Jones and his troop are mopping up a few stragglers of the enemy army at a small village. There is a briefing - but because Mouth has talked when he should not there are a lot of arguing and recriminations going on so that means Ears has not heard the briefing properly. The soldiers are sent out to the trucks to be taken to where the enemy are. But again because of arguments they do not realise that Eyes - fascinated by the footmarks Jones is making in the snow has sent him walking away from the truck. When Sir realises Jones is sent running to the truck. After the soldiers are dropped off they come under fire. Jones makes for a barn and against what he was told at the briefing goes in. There are two enemy soldiers as far as he can see and he manages to shoot them. He notices that Flemings one of the other soldiers from his group is in the barn severely wounded as he approaches another enemy soldier he had not seen shoots him. Wounded he falls but not before shooting the enemy soldier. Eyes can see that this soldier is not dead and is aiming his gun at Jones. Phones cannot get a response from Right Arm so Sir goes and manages to operate it and shoot the soldier. However, not before the soldier has shot at Jones. There is darkness. When some light comes they all realise that their Man is dead and they start packing up ready for their next assignment.
