Synopsis: | In a concentration camp a Jewish prisoner sits in a small room repairing watches and clocks taken from the Nazi's gas chamber victims. He is given an assistant a gay man who had claimed he could repair watches so that he would not be sent to the cement factory. At first they barely speak. The Jewish man does not like homosexuals and is very wary of his new assistant. They find that they both have a love of opera. They hear through the Capo who is in charge of them that there is to be a visit by the Red Cross and that prisoners will put on a concert for the visitors. They both practice but the visit is cancelled. Hans, the gay prisoner has been obtaining extra bread by giving sexual favours to one of the guards and Benjamin, the Jewish prisoner asks him to find out what happened to his family. When he hears that his favourite child - his daughter is dead he looses control and smashes one of the watches. When the Capo asks who did it Hans confesses that he had. The Capo then forces Hans to have sex with him. It is during this that Hans discovers that the Capo has a gun. Time passes and it is decided that there is only enough work for one prisoner - so one will have to be sent to the gas chamber. The Capo makes Benjamin & Hans decid who it will be. However, Hans overpowers the Capo and takes the gun. They exchange clothes and Hans escapes dressed as the Capo. | |||||
