Synopsis: Commissioned by Theatre Newfoundland Labrador, Tempting Providence is a heart-felt portrayal of Nurse Myra Bennett, a British-born nurse who came to Newfoundland after learning of the desperate need for medical aid in rural communities. Nurse Bennett arrived in Daniel's Harbour on the Northern Peninsula in the spring of 1921. She signed on for a year - but stayed - and during more than 50 years of service delivered over 700 babies, extracted 5,000 teeth, set broken limbs, performed kitchen table operations by lamplight and was known throughout the province as the Florence Nightingale of the North. | ||||
