Audrey Cefaly is a Southern playwright whose work often draws inspiration from her home state of Alabama and the Gulf Coast region. Her work is finely tuned to the voices and colorful stories of Southern working class people and seeks to explore the human condition with a darkly comic style. Her latest short work, THE GULF, which she is currently adapting into a full-length play, recently won the 40th Annual Samuel French OOB Festival and will soon be published by both Samuel French and Applause Books (Best American Short Plays). The full-length stage play adaptation was recently read at Signature Theatre in Arlington, VA (directed by Joe Calarco). Cefaly is also scheduled to be published in 2016 by Smith & Kraus. Her best known play, FIN & EUBA, received a reading at Ensemble Studio Theatre, won the Strawberry One-Act Festival in NYC, and is published in Best American Short Plays. The feature-length film adaptation received the Maryland State Arts Council Individual Artist Award. Cefaly's short plays (CLEAN, FIN & EUBA, STUCK, THE GULF) have been produced throughout the U.S. and Canada and have collectively won over 20 one-act festivals. She is a 3-time winner of both the Maryland One-Act Festival and the Eastern States One-Act Festival, and the inaugural winner of UMBC's IN10. She was also a finalist for Emerging Artists Theatre's EATFest as well as Ensemble Studio Theatre's Marathon of One-Act Plays. She directed the world premiere of her new Southern drama MAYTAG VIRGIN for Quotidian Theatre Company (October 2015) as part of the inaugural Women's Voices Theatre Festival. Cefaly is a member of the Dramatists Guild.
